The 5th Annual International Indoor Championship (IIC), presented by Scotty Ernst, was hosted over the weekend at the Riviera in the heart of the Las Vegas strip. With 90 entries in the class, Team Associated/Reedy’s Keven Hébert took his TC5R to the top qualifying position and eventually the A-main victory in the ultra competitive 13.5 Rubber Touring Car category. Hébert was on a mission to add to his impressive career resume by setting the fastest time each time he was on the track. With challenges from former World Champion Andy Moore, multi-time Reedy Race & National Champion Barry Baker, the young Associated star stood up to the pressure and claimed the top qualifying position. As the tone sounded for the main event, Hébert jumped out to a lead that would never be challenged. Waiting in the cat bird seat, Hohnstein took advantage of a tangle between Moore and Baker and jumped in to second position. Three minutes later, Hohnstein had Moore all over his back door and never cracked; even making a clean pass back on the World Champion after a wide corner. With Hébert on a victory lap, all Hohnstein had to do was drive around traffic to claim the runner up spot with Mike Haynes 3rd.

Flying Fox RC have announced their competition aluminium spool for the Losi JRXS Type-R. The spool is precision machined out of high quality aircraft grade 7075 aluminium to incredibly tight tolerances. Using the standard pulley and 2 standard Type-R outdrives they have managed to remove all traces of the age old problem of the spool slipping or the thread side hub stripping. Rotating weight has also been reduced using computer aided techniques to remove material from non-load bearing portions of the assembly. |

Speedzone have sent us a CAD image of their upcoming 1 cell LiPo saddle pack, ideal for 1/12 scale T-bar cars. Even though link cars are growing in popularity, many 1/12 scale racers still prefer the t-bar design so Speedzone wanted to offer a LiPo option for those with t-bar cars. Rather than shifting around electronics and rebalancing the car to fit a standard lipo, a lipo saddle pack offers up a perfect solution. Specs will be 3.7v, 4600mAh rated at 40C and a max charge rate of 5C. The pack will feature in-built bullet connectors and general availability is set for late September. |

Provisional TQ at the moment, Daniel Reckward with an awesome run in heat 10 doing a time of 7/5:19.9. (This would have put him 2nd in Q1, fast heats still to come in the next hour. Internet is horrible here, we're doing our best!! Sun is shining and Phil is sure to get suntannedburn't.
Jerome Aigoin put in a storming run to TQ the first round of qualifying at the 2009 Euros, his time of 7/5:16.5 was significantly quicker than his brother Yannick's by 4.5secs, in 3rd another Losi driver; Martin Bayer; 7/5:22.8.
Jerome told us his setup was the same as the warm up, except for switching to GridIron tyres having used Cityblock yesterday. Jerome's time is made all the more special, having missed the 3 minute 'sort our problems' round last night. In the press conference Jerome was delighted with himself and was hoping for a repeat in Q2. Fastest man yesterday Miguel Matias didn't feature having mistakenly forgotten his tyres at the hotel! Everyone is pretty happy, especially with the weather! A great show for ProLine with 3 of the top 4 running their tyres. Two more rounds to go...
Keep checking back for the latest! So we're onto Day 3 at the 2009 Euros, which can only mean Qualifying! Three rounds today; Q1 9:00-12:00, Q2 13:00-16:00 & Q3 16:12-19:12. Oh and after all our weather woes, check out the view from our hotel room this morning...Blue skys baby!!!
The heats were seeded with the fastest drivers out first. So this morning we have already seen the best out. A lower heat yet to run could give a surprise. |

Ultimate Racing have presented their new range of Pro Racing bearings to satisfy the needs of the most demanding drivers. All bearing kits have been manufactured to optimize the efficiency of all the cars moving parts, minimizing friction. Each bearing comes with 2 different seals, the internal one is made of steel in order to minimize the friction and the external one of rubber, with a new design developed by their tech department, that seals the bearing from water and dirt while still running free. Available as full sets for Associated, Mugen, Kyosho and Losi buggies, they have been lubricated with a high grade Teflon grease. |

The 3rd Annual Reedsburg Rumble, an event that brings the top racers from throughout Wisconsin and surrounding areas took place this past weekend under extremely cloudy and rainy conditions. Mother nature played her part in the Rumble this weekend teasing us Friday with picture perfect weather only to take it away and replace it with clouds, cold and light rain all day. Even though the forecast called for rain all day Saturday almost 100 drivers showed up for the annual event. Due to the forecast of heavy rain for the day, we started the day very early with a 9am start time, this early start was the key to us getting 99% of the event in. As the day progressed, a light drizzle fell on us for most of the day which made for a bit of a cold atmosphere but it actually worked to the racers benefit as the track was the absolute best you could hope for. Not muddy at all, just damp and full of traction.

Protoform were in contact to inform us of a milestone event that happened at last months Reedy Race of Champions in California. For approximately 10 years now every winner of every world class electric sedan event has seen the A-Main winning car donning some sort of Dodge Stratus or Mazda 6 style of race body. This decade old winning streak seems to have finally ended as Ronald Volker not only TQ’ed but won the RROC using a body that looked more like that of a Lexus IS-F. This year’s Reedy USA event was the first major event for the recently introduced Protoform LTC-R race body. Hupo Honigl backed up the bodies performance by finishing an excellent 4th place overall. Ronald’s big win at the Reedy Race is in fact something that’s starting to look like a bit of a tradition when it comes to the debuting of all-new Protoform sedan bodies. Barry Baker debuted the game changing Protoform Mazda 6 at the Reedy Race in Thailand with a win in 2004 and a couple of years later Craig Drescher won the Reedy Race in southern California while debuting the then all-new Protoform Dodge Stratus 3.0 race body.

We received the terrible news out of Italy that fire has ripped through the GRP Gandini factory in Guidizzolo, Italy last night. Thick, and i’m sure toxic, smoke fueled by plastic in the building filled the air around the blaze. Needless to say this is a massive set back for the manufacturer and their employees, but thankfully it seems no one was hurt and the Gandini brothers will hopefully rebuild. We will keep you informed of any updates. |
